Late 18th / Early 19th Century Leather Fire Bucket

A fine example of an early leather fire bucket, dating from the late 18th to early 19th century. The bucket is crafted from thick, hand-stitched leather, reinforced with copper rivets and a metal band around the rim and base for added strength. The leather has developed a rich, dark patina from age and use, giving it a wonderfully authentic character.

The bucket features a vertical seam secured with domed brass rivets and an additional metal rim with riveted joins at the top, typical of early firefighting equipment.

These buckets were commonly used in homes, public buildings, and aboard ships before the advent of modern firefighting equipment. Functional and utilitarian in their time, they are now prized as decorative antiques and pieces of social history.
